Thoughtful illumination brings warmth, playfulness, and comfort to pediatric care.

In the best of today’s modern healthcare settings, a warm sense of welcome begins long before patients see an examination room. To help create that feeling at Connecticut Children’s new Pediatric Care Tower, Lumenwerx partnered with the design team on a lighting strategy to support healing and complement the structure’s nature-inspired architecture.

For young patients and their families, the welcoming experience begins at reception. There, Curvia luminaires float above the desk in gently undulating forms, introducing a distinctive sense of playfulness. Their sculptural curves echo the building’s child-centric design language while providing comfortable illumination for healthcare practitioners.

In nursing stations and patient visiting rooms, Ubik recessed luminaires integrate cleanly into ceiling systems. These deliver low-glare lighting while minimizing visual clutter, a key element in creating calm, restorative spaces. In corridors, Ubik Perimeter luminaires trace the ceiling edges with streams of light, guiding movement and illuminating the bright, colourful graphics that help create an engaging environment for children.

The showpiece of the strategy is a large architectural tree in the family lounge. Via 1.5 surface luminaires, arranged in linear compositions, outline the trunk while providing ambient lighting for visitors. Elsewhere, Aera 3 Downlight, Voilà 2 Downlight, and Voilà 4 Downlight offer focused illumination for artwork and circulation, while Voilà 4 Seal Downlight and Via 3 Seal Perimeter luminaires provide dependable performance in wet exterior environments. Together, the lighting strategy reinforces Connecticut Children’s mission to bring imagination and compassion to healthcare.
